Dr. Patrick Briney, Microbiologist

Creation Insights is a ministry, founded by Dr. Briney, for the purpose of equipping Christians to give Biblical and scientific answers to every one who asks of them of the reason for the hope that is in them.

I have been described as a compassionate, religious, right wing conservative devoted to fulfilling my calling in Jesus Christ as a missionary to a lost world. I believe in fully integrating a Biblical world view in everything I do. I love what I do and wish I could do more.

Professionally, I am a trained microbiologist. Earning my Ph.D. in the early 80’s was the perhaps the most exciting time for anyone to study microbiology. The golden age of bacteriology came to an end with the successful identification and resolution of Legionella pneumophila, the golden age of virology was beginning, and genetic research was getting a big boost from microbiology.

Originally, my intentions since second grade were to go to medical school. But plans began to change when I met key people in my early college years with answers to my questions about God. Colleen Kayashima, who is now my wife, called me one day to let me know that she became a Christian. She directed me to someone on my campus at UC Irvine, which led to Bible studies, discovering answers, and eventually my salvation about two years later.

Six months after being saved, I surrendered to the Gospel ministry at Mission Boulevard Baptist Church (MBBC) in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I devoted myself fully to preparing for the ministry during my last year of undergraduate studies, led the outreach activities at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, taught eleven Bible studies each week, participated in every church ministry to round out my education of practical ministry, directed the outreach ministry of MBBC, and then assumed the responsibilities to serve as the missionary to academic communities as well as to direct the discipleship ministries of MBBC.

A year after graduating from the UA, I determined that it would be advantageous to my ministry to become a part of the academic community. So, I began graduate studies in zoology, then natural science, and ended up in microbiology to specialize in immunology and infectious diseases.

Integrating into the academic community was extremely beneficial, placed me in the center of the major issues facing college students and our culture, and prepared me to provide relevant leadership in the arena of competing world views. With the help of supporting churches, I was able to devote myself to discipling students; publishing television, radio and written information about the Gospel; offering apologetic training for the Christian faith; and preparing world view leadership studies. In addition to the academic community, doors of ministry and influence have opened to the communities of business and politics.

As for a cultural description of the most important transition in my life from being lost to saved, I tell people to read Francis A. Schaeffer’s Trilogy, which includes, “How Should we then Live?” If I were to write a biography of my intellectual journey during the 60’s to the 80’s, it would be a rewriting of Schaeffer’s three books. These books are my testimony during those tumultuous, revolutionary years in American culture.

The most important element in my life is the teaching of Jesus’ words recorded in Matthew 22:36-40, which says: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” This is the first and greatest of all commands. This is the beginning point and center piece of life. You can read more about what I have to say about this in my book, Multiply Your Life for Christ.

I have written three testimonial tracts that have been used for evangelism efforts. These tracts are designed with two tracts on one page. Just cut in half and tri-fold.

  1. Scientist believes Bible,
  2. Atheist No More,
  3. Cancer: Two Time Survivor.

Another useful tract I share with others: Why I reject Evolution
